For the purpose of sharing and learning, the Academy of
Management builds cooperative relationships and networks with other
societies committed to advancing the scholarship and practice of
management. Affiliated and associated societies augment and
complement the activities of the Academy. They operate
autonomously, conducting their own meetings and programs, which
give members an opportunity to interact with colleagues who share
commonality of culture, language, or geographic location.
Individuals join affiliated and associated societies separately;
membership dues for affiliated and associated societies are not
included in Academy dues.
Affiliated societies are organizations that share a common
purpose with the Academy. Such an arrangement requires a signed affiliation
agreement. Affiliated societies are independent groups.
Currently the Academy has five U.S. domestic affiliates:
the Eastern, Midwest, Southwest,
and Western Academies
of Management, and the Southern
Management Association, as well as four
internationally based affiliates: the Africa, Asia, Iberoamerican,
and Indian (INDAM) Academies of Management, and the National Honorary and
Professional Management Fraternity Sigma Iota
Epsilon.
Associated societies broadly agree to cooperate with the Academy
in some manner on an area of common interest. Currently, associated
organizations include the: Administrative Sciences
Association of Canada, Australian and New Zealand
Academy of Management, Brazilian Academy of
Management, British Academy of
Management, European Academy of Management, European Group for
Organizational Studies, International Association for
Chinese Management Research, and Academia de Ciencias Administrativas (ACACIA).
Federations are organizations in which the Academy participates
as a dues-paying member. Currently the Academy belongs to one
federation, the International Federation of
Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM).
