"Early in a PhD program, doctoral students are taking their first tumble down the rabbit hole into a world far different than what most of them have ever experienced. At that stage there is enormous value in socializing them to the broader academic community and the academic process to give them a better first-hand understanding of how things work and the kind of environments their future career will take them into.

Every good school wants, above all else, for their students to find success. The future accomplishments of the students reflect well on the institution, improving its visibility, increasing its reputation, and giving it an edge in recruiting the next batch of students. Giving students an early and frequent exposure to the Academy is one of the more powerful tools available to help enable that success."

Bart Sharp earned his Ph.D. from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in 2009 and currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Management at Northern Illinois University. Bart comes to academics by way of a background in aerospace engineering, which has informed his research interests in innovation, organizational learning, and entrepreneurship. His primary teaching responsibilities are in the strategic management area at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and his research work has been published in the Journal of Management, Organizational Research Methods, the Journal of Business Research, and the Quality Management Journal.
